Here's what fans and students are saying -

“Bill Uhler’’s guitar playing combines technical mastery of the guitar with with a keen devotion to melody lost in much of today’s guitar music.  Steeped in the traditions of Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, and Stanley Jordan, Bill understands that one of the guitar’s most important roles is as a tool for the human voice.  When that tool is utilized by itself, good guitar playing should play the roles of both voice and accompaniment.  The guitar should sing.  Bill Uhler knows how to make a guitar sing.” - Andrew Mannarino

“Bill is a performing artist music instructor. He has provided me with excellent guitar instruction both in a private setting as well as in a group (band) setting. Throughout the years - Bill has demonstrated an unwavering passion for music; and a true passion to teach music.  All this from an incredibly talented performing musician. His shows are amazing. Catch one if you can as you’ll be amazed by his incredible guitar skills!”

I've been a big fan of Bill Uhler's for years.   As a guitar instructor he did a great job of greatly improving my guitar playing skills, in addition to helping me overcome stage fright to the point that I was willing to perform in front of a crowd: this was not easy for me, and he deserves a lot of credit.     As a performer, he's a fantastic guitar player, and I go watch him play whenever I can.     Beyond this, he's just a great human being, and great person to be around. Definitely worth your time to get to work with Bill, and to watch him perform.   - Bob Reynolds

“It's been a long, isolating historical period in this incredible city of ours. It would be very easy to become comfortable in that isolation and forget what an incredible venue Chicago has provided to all of us with an amazing amount of  live music, incredible theatre and various artistic palettes.  I am very happy to say that I feel lucky to have had you as my teacher, which I plan on continuing to enjoy. And, to have enjoyed many of your solo performances in intimate venues. Keep it up my talented friend.  You're part of the soul of our great city.” - Bob E.

“I’ve been taking lessons with Bill since May, 2020 - when the pandemic and pre-election, daily nonsense drove me to turn off the television I wondered what I was I going to do? I had played rhythm guitar for one year as a frosh in high school in a 3 pc. combo with two guys who were actually young musicians, whereas I was self taught that year with chords from the latest Beatle or Yardbirds AM song and 2 years of classical piano private lessons in 4th and 5th grade. I knew lots of open chords, but got lost more than 3 or 4 frets up the fretboard.  These guys were so good that after part of a year of playing together I bowed out, convinced I would never be on their level, never understand chord changes and wondering why I had 22 frets on my used Harmony guitar when I only needed a few of them. For that matter, I probably didn't need 6 strings either. So, of course, after 50 years, I was going to take guitar lessons. I bought an electric guitar and started with Bill. It's closing-in on 2 years now -  I'm still a beginner, but I know a handful of positions for the pentatonic major and minor scales. I can play a few measures of intros to some blues classics and a measure or two of some turn-arounds. I even learned a Beatle song that required picking individual notes and not just chords. My fingertips have stopped hurting, and stretching my pinky to include 7th and diminished notes hurts less with each passing week. I think what I appreciate most about having Bill as my teacher is having more laughs in my one hour time slot than any other time during the week. He has a fantastic knowledge of music and music theory, not only as a teacher but as a musician - he finds passages that I can learn to understand the next concept. He's patient, he's supportive, but pushes me every week to play a little faster or with more clarity or with a greater understanding of what's happening on the sheet music. There's a lifetime of learning within those 6 strings. There have been moments when new neuron receptors were created during lessons or while practicing. I didn't know music could do that. I'm proud of Bill for uploading his first original song onto YouTube. I've been to a handful of his local gigs where he successfully connects with his audience, no matter their age.  I'm excited that he's building-out a new website to better showcase his talents, in every key.” - Lory Merritt

"Bill Uhler is an excellent instructor and a gifted performer. I have taken guitar lessons with Bill for many years and appreciate his patience and knowledge as he helped me as a mature adult learn how to actually make music. In addition, he arranged gigs for my former band members and I as we performed as the “Blind Goat” band along the North Shore. Thanks again Bill!"

"I'm an older guy who had no experience playing a musical instrument. I had always wanted to play guitar, and was tired of making excuses for myself. My son was an accomplished guitar player, so I had the equipment to use. I decided to try one of the many online courses to learn guitar. For me, it was a waste of time. I struggled, and had no one to give me personal attention. I went to the people at the Music Gallery, who recommended Bill Uhler. Bill told me that starting out would be difficult; but if I stuck with it, I'd get good results. What a difference! Having a patient, experienced player and instructor allowed me to progress beyond my expectations. I can highly recommend Bill, no matter what your level of skill. He's also a pleasure to listen to and watch play at his live performances." - Alan A.
